Voting Question: Minor Accident, Insurance Question?

I had just been in an accident a little over a week ago that I was not at fault for and the other party’s insurance company is taking care of all the damages to my car. Today I went to get an estimate and right after wards I went to the dealership service center to get my headlight replaced.

Well in the process of this, the service centers parking lot is packed because we just had a great big snow storm. I went to park in a spot, but I was crooked (because of the lack of manueverability). So I backed up so that I could straighten my car. After I had backed up, I went to change the gear to 1st (this is my first manual car and I am still getting the hang of moving on inclines), however, because of this oddly shaped parking lot, I was on an incline, which means as soon as I let off the break my car would start drifting backwards (not in a fast motion, but there was a bit backwards drif).

All of a sudden as I’m drifting backward trying to move forward, the service mechanic in the car directly behind me is pulling out. I don’t know if he just didn’t see me, or he had thought i was in my space and didn’t think to look if i had backed up or what? well as i’m slightly drifting backwards, he backs into my bumper and starts hitting his horn.

I don’t believe I am at fault for this because I was already out of my spot at the time and trying to move forward when the service tech started backing up. There wasn’t much damage to my car, just a bit of minor scratches that could be buffed out. The service techs car (it was a car that he was servicing) had some deep paint chipping on his bumper, however. We did not trade any insurance info, in fact I had just given him my number, as he couldn’t find his boss.

I was under the impression that they would just buff my car and let me be on my way (according to the service tech). However, As i was getting near my home, he had finally called me and told me that his boss wanted me to come back and exchange insurance info.

Now I am very weary of doing this as I was just in an accident a little over a week ago that not my fault, however, I don’t want to risk increasing my premiums because of some stupid little thing that happened at the service center! I just think its ridiculous for them to want me to come out there and exchange insurance info with their service tech who wasnt paying attention when he was backing up in their cramped parking lot. I don’t even care about my bumper as the scratching is barely visible.

What should I do?

Do i go back there and exchange info with him and risk being thrown into the high risk pool of my insurance co. and have them raise my premiums in 5 months? Or do i just say the hell with it and be on my way since they don’t have any of my info besides my phone number?
